From a single donkey cart to Hawassa's leading green enterprise
Our story began in 2010 E.C. with a single donkey cart and one man's determination — founder Henok Dongato, then working as a hotel guard, who saw an opportunity to bring order and value to Hawassa's waste. That one cart has since grown into a 91-employee, industry-leading environmental enterprise with a fleet of trucks, industrial recycling machinery, and a network of 18 small-enterprise partners.
Today, Hawassa Wubet Solid Waste Management and Recycling Enterprise is a medium-scale environmental enterprise delivering comprehensive municipal waste logistics, large-scale organic composting, and industrial PET recycling. Through strategic partnerships with international organizations such as GEF/UNDP and GIZ's Natural Resources Stewardship Programme (NatuReS), alongside local academic institutions and government agencies, we transform urban waste streams into valuable economic and agricultural resources while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable Hawassa.
